On December 8th, we will release "Aki ~Armonoir 2024~", Hida's first barrel-aged red wine made exclusively from wine grapes! (This time, it will be available for purchase at stores and online!)

Kidowaki Orchard House is a vineyard (orchard for growing wine grapes) with two vineyards in Hida Kokufu. The "Aki" series consists of wines made from carefully selected grapes from that year.

For 2024, we used 100% "Armonoir" grapes harvested from our "Juodo" vineyard along the Miyagawa River and aged them for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Armonoir is a hybrid of Cabernet Sauvignon, a premium variety, and Zweigeltrebe, which is cold-hardy.

It was named from "harmony," meaning harmony, and "noir," meaning black.

Please enjoy its complex and rich aroma and high acidity.

The label features artwork by Keiko Kishimoto, who also designed the labels for the half-bottle ciders. She beautifully captured the autumn scenery of Orchard House, the vineyard, and its surroundings (Arajodani, Arajogawa, and Norikura in Hida Kokufu)!

In a first for Gifu Prefecture, we are also collaborating with Hida Takayama Distillery and Nissin Mokko on a project to "utilize wine-aged barrels for whiskey."

On November 14th, two barrels – the French oak barrel used for this wine and a Hida Barrel (Mizunara oak barrel) made by Nissin Mokko – were delivered to the distillery. We are very much looking forward to seeing what kind of flavor will result from the combination of Hida red wine and Hida whiskey.

We encourage you to purchase two bottles of wine, and when the whiskey is released, please enjoy comparing the wine and whiskey, and savor the differences and changes brought about by the barrels.
